Types of credit cards from ANZ

  • ANZ balance transfer cards

If you want to pay off a credit card that's from another bank or brand, applying for an ANZ credit card with a 0% balance transfer offer gives you a way to save on interest during the introductory period. There is a minimum balance transfer amount of $100 and you can request up to 95% of your available credit limit. Just keep in mind that the balance is from credit or store card accounts not issued by ANZ.

  • ANZ Rewards credit cards

ANZ Rewards credit cards let you earn points per $1 spent on your everyday spending, which you can redeem for rewards including digital gift cards, cashback on your account and frequent flyer point transfers to Asia Miles, Air New Zealand Airpoints, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Velocity Frequent Flyer.

  • ANZ frequent flyer credit cards

If you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you can choose from 3 ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards that offer Qantas Points per $1 spent on your everyday spending. The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum and ANZ Frequent Flyer Black also offer more premium perks like complimentary international travel insurance and airport lounge passes.

Get more value: As well as earning points per $1 spent, ANZ rewards and frequent flyer credit cards can offer thousands of introductory bonus points to new cardholders. If you're eligible, you'll get rewards faster – which can also help justify the card's costs when you first get it.
  • ANZ low rate cards

The ANZ Low Rate card offers a 13.74% p.a. interest rate for purchases, which is 7.45 percentage points lower than the average standard credit card interest rate in Australia (currently 19.82% p.a.). This card also helps keep costs down with a relatively low annual fee.

  • ANZ business credit cards

ANZ offers a mix of rewards and lower cost business credit cards. These cards give you a way to keep track of business spending, with features including additional cards for employees, fraud monitoring and daily data feeds for accounting software including Xero, MYOB and Intuit QuickBooks Online.

Benefits of getting a credit card with ANZ

Every ANZ credit card comes with its own mix of features, but these are the benefits you'll get with any of them:

  • Mobile payments

ANZ credit cards can be added to any of these digital wallet apps so you can pay straight from your mobile phone or device:

  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Samsung Pay
  • Fitbit Pay
  • Garmin Pay
  • Instalment plans

ANZ credit cards offer instalment plans you can use to pay off purchases interest-free over 3, 6 or 12 months. You can set up a plan for eligible purchases through the ANZ app, then repay the balance in fixed amounts over your chosen period of time. This is similar to how most buy now pay later plans work, but is directly through your credit card. There's a one-time setup fee for the instalment plan based on the value of the enrolled purchase balance and the term you choose:

  • 1.5% for a 3-month instalment plan
  • 3.5% for 6-month instalment plan
  • 6.5% for a 12-month instalment plan

As an example, if you set up a 6-month instalment plan for a $2,000 purchase, this fee would be $70 and you'd get 0% interest on that balance during the instalment plan period. There's also no charge for cancelling or repaying plans early.

Instalment plans for part of your balance

ANZ also offers instalment plans for existing balances, with reduced or promotional interest rates for terms of 3, 6 or 12 months. You can view these options through the ANZ app or your online account. Check out Finder's guide to credit card instalment plans for more details on how this feature works and different options on the market.

  • ANZ credit card security

Every ANZ credit card comes with 24/7 security protection through ANZ Falcon, which detects and notifies you of any unusual account activity. You're also covered by the ANZ Fraud Money Back Guarantee and Visa Secure for online shopping.

Eligibility criteria

Before you can apply for an ANZ credit card, there are a few eligibility boxes you need to tick.
Each card has slightly different details for who can apply, but all Citi cards include the following:

  • Australian residency. You can apply for an ANZ credit card if you are an Australian citizen, permanent resident or a non-permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa.
  • Credit history. You should have a good credit history and credit score. If you're not sure what's on your credit file, it only takes a few minutes to get a free copy of your report and score.
  • Age. You must be at least 18 years of age.

How long does it take to apply?

It takes less than 20 minutes to apply online when you have all the details you need for the application form.

Once you complete and submit this secure form, you'll get a response within 60 seconds with details of the next steps for your application.

Information and documents you need to apply

ANZ credit card applications are made up of a mix of details everyone needs to fill in, and information that's specific to your Australian residency and how you earn income. This includes the following:

  • Personal details. This includes your full name, date of birth, contact details, your family situation and whether you rent or own a home. You also need to provide documents that show proof of your ID and address, such as your driver's licence, a recent utility bill, your Australian passport, Medicare card or a copy of your visa.
  • Financial details. You will need to provide information about your income and assets, including savings or investment returns, as well as regular expenses such as your mortgage payments, rent, utility bills and supermarket shopping.
  • Employment details. You will need to supply information on your current employment status, income and your employer's contact details. You also need to include payslips or bank statements that show at least 3 months of employment and regular income, or 6 months if you're employed as a casual.
  • If you're self-employed. You will need to include your accountant's name, the accountancy firm and your accountant's contact number. You also need to include your most recent Tax Assessment Notice and other documents showing your business profits and losses.
  • If you're retired or on a pension. You will need to provide details about your finances and supporting documentation, such as your most recent pension statement, an annual superannuation statement with an indexed pension amount and 3 months of personal bank statements showing regular credits or cash deposits.

Get income from a mix of sources? Include as much supporting documentation as possible for your application or call ANZ on 13 22 73.

Credit card details

During the application, you'll be asked about details of your new credit card. The two key details to look at are the following:

  • Credit limit. If you have a credit limit in mind, you can include that as part of the application. Just keep in mind that ANZ will offer you a credit limit based on its assessment of your application, which could be lower than the one you've requested.
  • Balance transfers. If you're moving a debt to a new ANZ credit card with a 0% balance transfer rate, you need to include the account details and the amount of debt you want to transfer. Note that the balance transfer is approved separately and the amount that's transferred depends on the credit limit you get for your new ANZ card.

What happens after you apply?

You will get a response and application reference number within 60 seconds of submitting your application. ANZ will contact you within 2 business days if you need to provide any more information before a decision is made.

If you're approved, you should get a welcome pack sent in the mail within 5 business days.
