Our verdict

This no annual fee credit card offers 0% interest on purchases and balance transfers for 6 months, with higher rates after that.

As the name suggests, the Citi Simplicity offers simple credit card features and an ongoing $0 annual fee. The current 0% interest rate offer on this card gives you 6 months to make purchases interest-free and/or to pay off an existing balance you transfer to the card. While there's no balance transfer fee, keep in mind this is one of the shortest balance transfer offers on the market. And a higher 22.24% p.a. interest rate applies to any remaining balance transfer after the introductory period.

  • Ongoing $0 annual fee
  • 0% p.a. on purchases and balance transfers for 6 months

We are aged pensioners and trying to find a way to pay off a $40000 debt. Interest is killing us. Is there an Interest free account that we can do multiple balance transfers of all our debts too and only pay one interest amount for a period of 12-18 months.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your question.

Please note I am not able to give personal advice on your situation. It may be helpful to get in touch with the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 as they can advise you on the various options you have available and which products you may be eligible for.

You can also find some helpful resources on the Government’s Money Smart website here.

I hope this helps,

Elizabeth

Hi Paul,

If you had the Emirates Citi World Mastercard, which was taken off the market and phased out for existing customers on or before 30 May 2023, you could compare other credit cards that offer Emirates Skywards Miles on Finder. If you had a different card, or want a new card with Citi, you can compare the current range of Citi credit cards on Finder. You can also contact Citi through your account or by calling the Citi customer service team on 13 24 84. I hope that helps.

Hi Barry,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Are you pertaining to this Citi Simplicity Card? If so, you might need to contact Citibank directly to confirm if you’re eligible to apply since you’re retired. With this card, you’re required to have an income of more than $35,000 a year. If in case you’re eligible to apply, you would also need to submit a letter from Centrelink showing your name and the permanent government pension amount, your three most recent bank statements showing proof of regular payments, your annual superannuation statement, which includes an indexed pension amount, or your most recent self-managed superannuation tax return (must be less than 15 months old).

Moreover, please note that with credit card balance transfers, you have to go through the card application and meet the eligibility requirements. If you’re approved for the card, your BT will also be approved. The amount you can also transfer should not exceed your approved credit limit. For this Citi Simplicity Card, you can transfer debts from other cards up to 80% of your available credit limit.

Hope this information helps.

Cheers,

May

Hi John,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Please be advised that credit card accounts are established based on any one person’s income and financial details. Usually, due to the nature of risk and lending, it will not be possible to open a joint credit card. There are only selected card issuers that may allow you to do so.

Should you wish to pursue applying for this card, your alternative is to add supplementary cardholder(s) once approved.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Jonathan

First time to use a credit card. What facilities are available to pay what’s owing on the credit card. Can I do a direct transfer from my savings account

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your question.

There are different ways on how you can pay your credit card bill on time:

Internet banking – you can link your credit card, transaction account or savings account using Internet banking.

Autopay – most banks also allow you to download and complete an autopayments form to debit funds from a nominated transaction account.

BPAY – After logging into your Internet banking account, look for the “Make BPAY payment” section. Enter your credit card number, the BPAY biller code and how much you want to pay.

At a branch – Make a cash or cheque payment in person at a branch.

By post. You can send a cheque in the mail to the address listed on your credit card statement. This is a lengthy process and there’s a chance you’ll incur late payment fees if your cheque doesn’t clear in time.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Anndy
