1. Dodo - Exclusive offer for comparison websites
Being a comparison website has its advantages, and this month, we've got an exclusive offer with Dodo.
Sign up via Finder and get this exclusive discount for comparison websites only, offering $15 off each month for the first 6 months.
Most popular Dodo plan on Finder:
Dodo could be right for you if
- You want the option to bundle internet with electricity and save $10 per month
- You prefer an internet provider that has been around for a while
- You would like access to a free home phone line and unlimited domestic calls for an additional $10 per month
- Keep in mind: While Dodo advertises fast speeds on its plans, you may not always get these. It routinely ranks towards the bottom of the ACCC's Broadband Performance Report, which measures how reliable certain NBN providers are.
2. Tangerine - Some of the cheapest plans available
Tangerine keeps its NBN plans juicy thanks to 6-month discounts and fairly steady prices even after these discounts expire.
Its NBN 50 plan is a clear winner for being one of the cheapest on Finder, even without the discount.
Most popular Tangerine plan on Finder:
Tangerine could be right for you if
- You don't want to spend a lot on your internet bill
- You want an internet provider with plenty of customer support options
- Keep in mind: Tangerine doesn't offer the best speeds on its NBN 100, 250 or 1000 plans. For anything faster than NBN 100, you may find a better deal elsewhere.
3. TPG - The cheaper of the big telcos
TPG offers fast internet at prices that are $5–$10 cheaper per month than other big brands like Telstra and Optus. It's also one of the only larger telcos that hasn't increased its NBN prices over the last month.
That being said, the most popular TPG plan this month is actually its 5G home internet range which offers competitive pricing for similar speeds to its NBN plans.
Most popular TPG plan on Finder:
TPG could be right for you if
- You're open to trying out 5G home internet instead of the NBN for comparable speeds at a lower cost
- You know you get decent Vodafone coverage at your home
- Feel more confident signing up to a more well-known internet provider
- Keep in mind: TPG's home internet modem comes included for free if you stay connected for 24 months. If you choose to leave earlier, you'll need to return the modem in good working condition within 21 days of cancelling your plan.
4. Optus - Fast speeds with loads of entertainment options
Optus is another household name that offers fast internet speeds alongside a free serving of entertainment extras such as Optus Sport, OS Fitness and a standard subscription to Netflix on some plans (worth $16.99 per month).
It was awarded 4th place for being one of the fastest NBN providers in the latest ACCC Measuring Broadband Performance report. This, coupled with its entertainment extras, could justify its slightly higher prices.
Most popular Optus plan on Finder:
Optus could be right for you if
- You want fast and reliable internet and don't mind spending extra
- You would like to save on your entertainment extras and access Optus SubHub – a one-stop shop for your streaming subscriptions with discounts available
- You are keen to get 4G backup on your modem (useful during an NBN outage)
- Keep in mind: You can get a modem free of cost as long as you stay connected for 36 months. If you exit early, you will have to pay $7 for each month remaining.
5. Belong - Great for eco-friendly internet users
Belong is Australia's first ever carbon neutral broadband provider that offsets all electricity used by its customer's modems.
It's also the cheaper alternative to Telstra, which fully owns Belong. The typical evening speeds during the busy hours of the day (7-11pm) are a bit slower on some plans but not by much.
Most popular Belong plan on Finder:
Belong could be right for you if
- You want to opt for a carbon neutral plan at no extra cost.
- You want to buy a cheap modem. Belong will charge you a one-off $60 which is well below the average cost of modems on Finder.
- Want a bonus Belong SIM card with $80 worth of credit when you sign up to its NBN plan.
- Keep in mind: You'll be able to find cheaper and faster plans from other providers but Belong compensates for this with its green status.
6. iiNet - First month free
iiNet is another household name when it comes to the internet, and like TPG, its home internet plans were a hit with Finder users this month thanks to its first month free offer and competitive prices.
Most popular iiNet plan on Finder:
iiNet could be right for you if
- You're more comfortable signing up to an internet provider who's been around the block.
- You'd like to try out an NBN alternative with the first month for free.
- You know you get decent Vodafone network coverage in your area.
- Keep in mind: iiNet's 5G home internet modem comes included with your plan if you stay connected for 36 months. If you leave earlier, you'll need to return the modem in good working condition within 21 days of cancelling your plan.
7. AGL - NBN discounts for existing energy customers
With price rises happening on almost all your bills, why not bundle your internet with your energy to score an extra discount?
AGL energy customers get up to $25 off their NBN plans each month, which isn't a bad deal if you want to bundle your bills with one provider.
Most popular AGL plan on Finder:
AGL could be right for you if
- You're already with AGL energy and looking for a discount on your internet bill.
- You'd like to join a provider that also offers a home phone line.
- You like having a variety of customer support options, including interpreter services over the phone, a mobile app or live chat.
- Keep in mind: Bundling your energy and internet may not always be the cheapest option. Make sure you compare standalone NBN plans as well to make sure you're getting the best deal possible.
8. Kogan - Get Qantas Frequent Flyer points on your NBN
Outside of shopping deals, Kogan also offers a set of NBN plans with the unique feature of earning a Qantas Frequent Flyer point for ever $2 spent on its plans.
Most popular Kogan plan on Finder:
Kogan could be right for you if
- You're looking for a plan with a sign-up discount - most of Kogan's plans come with a 3-month discounted price.
- You're looking to stack up QFF points.
- You need a modem with your plan - Kogan offers a cheap $69 modem if you're after a new one.
- Keep in mind: Kogan doesn't offer any online account management so if you need to make any changes, you'll need to call up its helpline.
9. Flip - Cheap plans with additional senior discounts
Flip started off as a streaming provider but now offers cheap NBN plans with Australian customer support.
While it might not offer any flashy extras on its plans, it's a great option for those looking to keep their internet bills low, offering the cheapest NBN plans across multiple categories on Finder.
Most popular Flip plan on Finder:
Flip could be right for you if
- You want to try Flip for "free" with its 14-day satisfaction guarantee
- You want to take advantage of their seniors discount – you'll score an additional $5 off a month on the ongoing price if you hold a Seniors, PCC, CSHC or DVA Pensioner Concessions card
- You want to add foreign-language TV packages
- Keep in mind: Flip offers pretty expensive modems at $199. Most providers offer modems for around $130, so unless you're in the market for a new one, we suggest to BYO modem to keep your upfront costs low.
10. Southern Phone - Great year-long savings
Southern Phone stands out from the rest of the NBN providers this month thanks to its 12-month discount across most of its plans.
Most popular Southern Phone plan on Finder:
Southern Phone could be right for you if:
- You're looking to stick with the same provider for at least a year - you'll get a great promotional price for your first year with Southern Phone
- Are looking for a provider with an Australian call centre
- Are in need of a new, cheap modem
- Keep in mind: Southern Phone mentions it's a carbon neutral provider but it does so through offsetting carbon credits rather than adopting sustainable business practices.
How do I find the best internet provider in my area?

How do you compare internet providers in Australia?
There are a bunch of factors to consider before signing up for a new provider, including the following:
Price
If you're new to a provider, see if you can score any introductory deals. Common deals with NBN plans are a discounted price for 3–6 months, while home wireless plans often come with the first month for free.
Just remember to keep note of when the promotional period runs out, so you don't end up paying more than you want to.
Speed
The NBN speed you need will depend on how many people are in your household and how intensely you use the internet. Most 2–3 person households will find NBN 50 sufficient, though larger households or those working from home may prefer NBN 100.
Customer service
Depending on your previous experiences, customer service can be a make-it or break-it factor when comparing plans. If you're sick of playing phone tag or only having the option to live chat, you might prefer an internet provider with an Australian-based call centre.
Who's the most popular provider?
Telstra is the most popular broadband provider, according to our consumer sentiment tracker data (November 2023). The top providers were Telstra (39%), Optus (19%), TPG (9%), iinet (7%), Belong (5%), Vodafone (4%), Aussie Broadband (4%) and Tangerine (2%).
What are the internet providers in Australia?
There are dozens of internet service providers offering NBN, satellite, home wireless and mobile broadband plans in Australia. While we try our best to compare as many internet providers as possible, we may not cover some of the smaller regional operators.
We compare over 60 internet providers across Australia.
- Keep in mind: Some smaller providers may operate in certain states or cities only. We do not compare these providers as they aren't as accessible for those living outside of these areas.
Methodology: How we researched the best internet providers
To calculate the top 10 best internet service providers, we look at the total number of clicks by Finder users over the last month. This includes plans on multiple connection types including NBN, home wireless and mobile broadband.
Keep in mind that the providers on this list are Finder partners, which means we may be paid if you click links to partner websites. Find out more about how we make money.
We're still editorially independent, and in our breakdown of these providers and their plans, we'll be upfront about any sneaky terms and conditions we think you should know about.

need to compare opticom broadband can someone help pls?
Hi Noel, you can compare Opticomm broadband plans here: https://www.finder.com.au/what-is-opticomm. Hope this helps.
I’d like to get the nbn on
Hi John,
You can enter your address here to see if you can get the NBN and what plans are available to you: https://www.finder.com.au/nbn-tracker
From there, you can select the one that best suits your needs.
Hope this helps.
We bought a building block which did not have the nbn connected. Can I now get it connected and how much would it cost.
Hi John,
As you don’t have the NBN connected at your block, you would likely face a $300 one-off new development fee. This would be passed on to you by the NBN provider that you choose.
You can compare NBN plans here to see what suits your needs: https://www.finder.com.au/broadband-plans/nbn
And when you’ve contacted the provider of your choice, they will inform you if you can get the NBN connected at your block and if any additional work is required and how much this would cost on top of the regular monthly NBN plan.
Hope this helps.
